Tomorrow is Court Day

Today was tough knowing that Ophelia had left her mark on Swansboro. Talked to Mom today and she said most of downtown was flooded and it was just a never-say-die storm. We certainly pray that everyone is OK and that the damage was minimal. I’m guessing Dad’s dock is gone if the water got that high. It hurts being here and not at home to clean up. Aunt Mary, I’m sorry you had to spend your birthday couped up, riding the storm out.

Well, today was Donetsk day, off to see Joseph Edward this morning. When we finally caught up with him, we helped get him dressed for outside, just know we didn’t pick out his clothes (if you look at today’s pictures) we just helped put them on, we didn’t care. I wish I could explain how his face lights up when he sees us now, it just leaves no doubt that he and Jenna Leeza were always meant for our family. The weather has been so awesome, we always immediately head outside. He wanted to be held most of the time, but did get down some to play with the ball and the bubbles. Then came the coup-de-tat, we affectionately call Jennie’s backpack the “Blue Bag of Bountiful Booty”, and they know it, always peeking in it for ‘what’s next’. The pretzels, cheese, and water were all it took to fully captivate him. We made sure we had enough for 3, so I believe we topped him off. But bless his heart, he’s so small; he’s got a lot of catching up to do.

Susan, it was nice of you to call, sorry we were asleep. Thank you Dianne, Mandy, Sally, and Mary Behan for your encouraging words and updates, it definitely helps. Pray for God’s will tomorrow at 2:00pm our time (7:00am your time) as we’ll be standing in front of the judge in Donetsk, asking somehow for an immediate execution. But either way, knowing our boys are OK is the greatest gift of all and gives us strength to take whatever they throw at us. Love to all.

  • Hi Jeff and Jennie,
I sense the homesickness you both have and it HURTS! Hang in there...you will be back soon and all together again....David Paul anxiously awaits some new playmates...although as tiny as Edward is, you may have to monitor him around DP and Luke as they are into tackling each other and have had quite a few bumps and bruises (and tears) lately! They are trying to "out-tough" each other I think....Jeff, the playset you worked so hard to help us move from the Phelps yard got blown over during Ophelia and damaged in several places, but hopefully it will be fixable! WE lost some trees but not the ones we wanted to chop down-darn! I am getting ready to check on Firestone, and I think Mr. Blue enjoyed the sounds of the wind while hanging in the garage! I am getting ready to go to Mary's and pay Justin for something for his school fundraiser, drop off banana bread, and check on the birthday girl....Jacob, Justin and I spent some time together day before yesterday and I enjoyed their company so much...we worked on a "secret project" for Aunt Mary's BD and one for you two and the kids!!!! I got to know Justin so much better- what a sweet young man! Well,,,God bless and stay the course...Proud of you for doing a Beth Moore, Jennie( I am doing one called "A heart like his"at Emerald Isle!)while you are there, - on top of mastering Russian Cooking and running and visiting two orphanges....wow!!! Good Luck with court day although you don't need luck -you have GOD on your side!!!Jennie...I got another homestudy to do as of yesterday!!!
love, Cathy and the rest of the J. household including various and assorted critters
PS. Justin and I have selected matching ballerina dog costumes for Lilly and Cheyenne for halloween!!! Just so you know...
PSS.... and I am getting ready to go take Claire and Bryan some bread too!!!we have had a full week...Jose came home from Iraq, we Had a baby born and Ophelia came and stayed and stayed like an unwelcome houseguesT!! BUT WE ARE LUCKY WE KNOW!!!

  • Hi Jennie,
I just saw Claire, Bryan and PRECIOUS little Grace Elizabeth!!! I took them a hearty meal and banana bread. Grace is gorgeous! Claire is a bit overwhelmed but I think doing remarkably well...Buster is very protective. Bryan is so sweet to them all... they said hi...Claire and Grace's nursing is going very well, but (to Claire's distress and fatigue!), Grace is a "night owl" (right now)....I told her to hang in there....
Claire looks great for just having had a baby!!!
Well, I will be thinking about you & praying for expedition tomorrow as you all are before your judge and we are getting ready for school (yeah! ) here....can't wait to get some hugs from those little cutie patooties...
    Good night and God speed,
    Cathy J.

  • I have to admit I was wondering about the outfit. It's obvious how sensitive that Jeff has become through out this process or maybe being married to a psyche major, but the floral sweat suit was a bit much. Of course that sounds so stuck up. Sweet little Joseph is probably lucky to have warm cloths at all, but that's the picture you need to show him when he's 17 and talking back. Not that your children would ever talk back. I have been watching the hurricane on TV. I'm so glad to know all of our family is safe. I know everything is going to go great in court. Let us know as soon as you get out. I'll be a wreck all day.

  • Dear Jennie & Jeff,
We are all praying for good news tomorrow! We love the precious pictures of Leeza and Edward. Elizabeth spent the night with us this week and we showed her some of the most recent pictures of Leeza and Edward. Elizabeth, Alexandria and Danielle talked about what they were going to teach their new cousins/neighbors. It was really sweet! We pray you will be home soon with your beautiful children. May God continue to guide you through this process and bless you with a wonderful future!
    Love,
    The Chadwick Family

  • Hi Jeff & Jennie,
I have been keeping an eye on your progress there and the weather here. I believe that North Carolina is truly blessed not to have a hurricane like Katrina or a repeat of Hugo from years ago. I pray that GOD'S will be done in all of our lives and especially for you guys on Friday. I think that the 4 of you will be headed home shortly. I have to ask, is it going to be the 6 J's soon? Any way I will be praying really hard for you all and your trip back to the states. Keep those photos coming, Leeza and Edward are such adorable angels. You all look as though you are getting closer every day. It sure is great to see all the comments posted by friends and family, you guys are so blessed. Best wishes for Friday in court. Take care.

  • Hi guys,

I've been thinking about you all morning, praying that you will get a definitive date to come home SOON! Ironically, I spent the morning in Juvenile Court here, listening to all the sad stories of unwanted kids here. One poor kid sat in the courtroom and had to listen to some clueless caseworker go down the list of his family members who don't want to take care of him - his mother is deceased, his father's in jail, etc. Finally, the judge stopped him and said to say that the family was unable to care for him, not that he's not wanted. Anyway, I just was thinking about how awesome you guys are for reaching out to a couple of kids a world away who have no one and bringing them back to share your lives and family.

I have to admit I noticed the outfit Edward was wearing, but it's so funny because kids have no clue about clothes. He still looked like a darling little boy, even with the flowered sweat suit!
Sally is right - that's a good picture to hold onto for when he's giving you grief about not being able to borrow the car or go on spring break or any number of things that will tempt you to exert a subtle form of blackmail.

I can't wait to read your next update, and I'm certain that you will have some good news!!! We love ya!

    Mandy
