9 and Counting...
Counting down the days, thank you all for the kind words in your comments and emails, it really charges our “batteries”. Today, we went to see our daughter (couldn’t wait to say that) and I must admit, it did feel a little bit different. When we pulled into the driveway, her group was outside playing and we saw her at the fence with another little girl. I jumped out of the car and called her name and she seemed to get excited, and then it happened. Apparently, (from what Kostya was able to hear and interpret) one of the caregivers called her back and told her to ask for permission, it hurt her feelings so bad, she started crying (the first time we’ve seen her even come close to crying). We thought she had hurt herself on the fence or something before Kostya let us know what he had heard. Talking about the big bad mama-bear coming out in Jennie, needless to say, we were none to happy. The rest of our visit, she was very pensive and just not herself, but we made the best of it. In fact, the pink fingernail polish Jennie bought yesterday for her was a treat. She readily let Jennie paint her nails and then she returned the favor by painting Jennie’s thumbnail. I wouldn’t trade that sight for anything in this world. She said she will never wash that thumb again. Leaving was very tough, it’s too hard to rationalize why we have to leave her there now.
One of the other highlights though was we took about half of the toys today and gave them to the children in her group (about 15 of them). When we told the caregiver that we had them, all the children lined up and were extremely well behaved, but I could see the anticipation in their attention-starved eyes. Unexpectedly, the biggest hit was all the jump ropes, Kostya and I adjusted the ropes a little bit and they were so happy. We will take the rest on Monday along with the copier that was at the top of their need list.
To all of Oyster Bay, we’re very thankful for such a supportive neighborhood, I’m sure you’ll be seeing more toys in the yard (to our newest neighbor, Michael, we’ve already told them about the cool kid across the street). Thank you Kenny for your wonderful family, they have been such a blessing to us, I know how proud you must be of them. Mary Behan, the best tip I can give you is run a straightened coat hangar through, grab the buckle, and pull it back through, or, make David do it, but seriously, thank you for your kind words. The Brooke ladies of TX, Jeff E, Mandy&Eddie, Pamela&Paul, and all the grandparents, we feel your prayers as we get stronger each day now. Sally, someone used your name to post, you have never been at a loss for words (which we are actually thankful for). Cathy, Lilly wore the ballet outfit last year, she wants the Cat In The Hat costume this year.
Justin and Jacob, we loaned out Napolean Dynamite tonight, we’ll find out how to say “build a cake”, “delicious bass”, and “sweet jumps” in Russian for you. We did get “bucket head” translated for you. Love you, miss you, and hope you have a nice weekend.

She's back..........Please let the care giver in Jenna's group know there is a really tall girl from Texas on her way over to straighten her out. How dare she make Jenna ask permission to run to her Mamma and Papa? Please let her know that when Aunite Sally finally gets to meet her I will make it up to her. Also, tell that person she isn't allowed to make copies on the new copier. I'm a little bummed. My new school's football team is terrible. Last night was our 1st home game. We are the largest high school in the state of Texas, and WE SUCK!! We can't pass, tackle, or catch. You'd think with almost 5,000 kids, someone could play football. There were at least 15 turn overs in the game. It was like watching a Junior High game. The Longhorns are doing well though, and of course the Cowboys are almost respectable this year. They play on Monday night this week. I doubt it would be on T.V there even if you had one, so I'll let you know how it turns out. So are you getting on each other's nerves yet? Tim and I would have killed each other. I'll still take a baby, if you can sneak out another one. Wonder what the penalty is for sneaking a baby out of Ukraine?

Hey guys
I can't believe the nerve of that caretaker!!!!!!!! I bet your head spun around, Jen, 'cause mine would have. I can't believe that person made Jenna cry .... well, good thing you're taking her out of there soon. Why can't the kids come and stay with you guys now? I think it would be maybe a good idea for you all to hang together for a while before you make that long trek home. Well, I guess they have their reasons, but it seems kind of strange and irrelevant at this point.
When I saw your blog title the first time, I (briefly) thought you guys were going to adopt nine more kids(!) Well, it is late at night and my contacts are a little foggy, but I think you guys would be able to handle nine more kids!!
Can't wait till you're on your way home and back in the good ol' USA.
Only eight more days!!
hugs

Dear Jennie & Jeff,
Good morning! I got SO mad when I read your entry this morning...your poor little DAUGHTER Jenna! I got teary-eyed thinking of how you must have felt at that moment- so helpless, I bet.I can't believe you didn't jump the fence and deck her! (In Christian love, of course) Why can't they be with you now? How hard it must be for you all...will Jenna and Joseph remember each other when they reunite? So many questions... but the reality is we are counting the days until you arrive back in the "hood"...we know you and your new family will need time to connect & reconnect but just you know that you have many anxious friends and neighbors who will be waiting for the first "six J's outing and/or shindig"....I love reading Sally's comments- she is SO funny....
For a while, I thought maybe Firestone had gotten carried away by Ophelia as she didn't eat for two days,(but I din't say anything because I had hope!) but I finally saw evidence of some missing food and I am assuming she is back and eating although I still haven't seen her....Mr. Blue is still hangin' in with me- The other day, Jacob said to me, " you can keep him", followed by , "I bet he'll die soon anyway." What a character! I told him, I hoped not and that I would not keep him as he is part of your family now....and that I was sure Jenna and Joseph would like hearing him sing...If Lilly is "cat in the hat", Cheyenne has to switch to the Grinch- it would be embarassing to Cheyenne to be passe in last year's costume- we must keep watch on her fragile self-esteem you know. Thanks for sharing about the gifts you bought for the orphange...I wish I could have seen the faces of the children...thanks for letting us be a small part of it...Oh, and I am with Sally,,, you can sneak me back a baby also, what's one more?
Love and God Bless you with our continued prayers.
Love,
Cathy, Tim & David Paul
PS. Your biggest boy helped aunt Mary clean up the hurricane leaves the other day- he is such a helper...he is ( as well as Jacob) also very talented- can't wait for you to see their "secret projects"! David and I are going to see Jacob play next Saturday- he invited us and we can't wait! (Do they have a "football for dummies " or "taking the mystery out of Football" book available for me anywhere?) I think I can cram between now and then!
